Dauntless Released!
I’m happy to announce that book six of the Blood on the Stars series, Dauntless, has been released in all Amazon stores and on Kindle Unlimited. You have all given me a wild ride with this series, and I just want to thank you all again…in heartfelt words, of course, but also with action.
Dauntless has been released at $2.99, a $2 discount from its regular price of $4.99. This price will only be in place a few days. It’s for all of you, those who have been with me in this adventure, as my way of showing my gratitude. And, if you haven’t read Blood on the Stars yet (or you haven’t reached book 6), the other five volumes are all on sale for just 99 cents each. That means, you can pick up the whole series leading up to book six, for just $4.95 (that’s about 600,000 words!).
Blood on the Stars Books 1-5 (99 cents!)
I have more good news for Blood on the Stars fans. The series continues. Book 7, The White Fleet, will be released this spring.
And now, a little about Dauntless:
The pulsar…an ancient weapon of unimaginable power, one that threatens the Confederation with total destruction. The Union is preparing for the final invasion, one that cannot fail with the great artifact at the head of their fleet. The clock is ticking quickly toward midnight.
There is a chance to avoid annihilation, a small one. The Confederation has its own ancient device recovered from the Badlands, a stealth generator. It is not as powerful as the pulsar, but it just may be enough.
The generator can hide a single vessel, so Tyler Barron and the crew of Dauntless reunite to take their aging battleship once more into the breach. They will go to the Bottleneck, the system where the Union is preparing the final assault. They must sneak around the vast forces of the Union fleet, into the heart of the massively-defended system, and somehow destroy the pulsar.
The fleet will be with them, all the might the Confederation can muster, but success hinges almost entirely on Dauntless’s desperate attack. And, even if Barron and his people succeed in their mission, they will be trapped behind the enemy fleet, cut off and alone.
Dauntless is book six of the Blood on the Stars series. Blood on the Stars will continue with The White Fleet.
Hello Mr. Allan,
I have been an avid SCI FI reader since junior high. Way back when there was no internet and we had to rely on the science fiction book club.
I read DAUNTLESS straight thru. Awesome. Should have slowed down already waiting on spring for book 7. Love your style and thank you for publishing!
Al, thanks for the post. I’m glad you enjoyed Dauntless. I had a good time writing it too. And, FYI, I remember the SF Book Club well! – Jay
I have to say, Mr Allen you are without a doubt my favourite sci fi author. I read duel in the dark last year, along with most of the sequels, when I ran out of books I read a lot of the crimson world series. Then I took a break from them and I found more Dauntless books are out, an if only The White Fleet were finished. Excellent writing!!! Hmmm don’t suppose there are any layouts or drawings of Dauntless? Besides the book covers. I honestly don’t understand why movies and television series are constantly remade… When there are so many Great works out there, that could be adapted for tv. Well maybe one day some company with brains and a love for your characters, will decide to do something.
Justin – thanks so much for all the comments. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the books. I’m working on The White Fleet right now, and hope to have it out in late February or early March. I don’t have any sketches of Dauntless, but that would be a fun thing to have done sometime. I hope you continue to enjoy the series (and my other ones). Thanks! -Jay
As always, another fantastic read. Not sure if I prefer Crimson Worlds or this now.
Looking forward to book 7
Alfie, I’m glad you like the new series. No need to pick a favorite. I’m thrilled you’ve enjoyed both. – Jay
Hello..I have been an avid SciFi reader since 1965..I love reading ‘new’ authors and have stumbled on to you..First a big heart felt thanks…I just finished reading the Blood on the Stars series ove all of them, but, of course have one somewhat negative comment on the #6 ‘Dauntless’ on the ultimimate battle. The strategey, why go to ‘The Pulsar’ weapon? It was stationary and well out of range and even when it moved the path would have been known. The logic would be to have the Pulsor make the transition through the gate and then fight/fire on it as it made the trasition. You knew it would be in immidiate range of both the primary and secondary weapon. With or without the cloaking it would have been a sitting ‘duck’. To go into the bottleneck was a bad choice..made for more drama but not a good strategic move. Of course the Union had a considerabl force, but they wer outmatched. That is my two cents..I am NOT a writer..don’t have the talent and am so grateful that you are blessed with the writing skilss you have. Thank you and looking forward to the #7 book in the series.
Do you recomend reading your series in any particular order or are they really ‘seperate’ and stand alone?
Thanks again
Sebastian – I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the books. I appreciate what you’re saying, but I thought I’d shown them discussing the difficulty of a close in defense of a transit point. First, a ship comes out at the velocity it went in, so a fleet could just accelerate before transiting and whip past any close in defenders. Also, they were as concerned in the book that they’d figure out how to replicate the thing, which would have been another problem, of course. You’ll also note there was some fog of war going on. The Union folks realized they probably didn’t have the staying power to push things to a conclusion, even with the pulsar, and the Confederation was, of course, not sure of that and worried about disaster scenarios.
As far as reading my series, Crimson Worlds is my other big one, and it was also my first. There are nine books and two spinoffs, a trilogy and one with 6 books (four out, two coming this spring), plus on standalone book. So, that’s 19 books set in that universe, by far my largest series. My Portal Wars trilogy is all on its own. My Far Stars books started with a trilogy published by Harper Voyager, and I have since put out a prequel (with two more coming to make that a trilogy). I’m also doing a fourth Far Stars book for Voyager, so that will be out, probably early next year. If you have any questions about any of this, email me at jay@jayallanbooks.com. – Jay
Howdie Jay!
Been binge reading a ton of your books lately. Just finished the Crimson Worlds series. And am currently reading the Refugees series (Currently 80% through book 4) so far refugees has been my favorite series. Is there a possible timeline for book 5 in the series. (Im also on book 4 of blood on the stars, so i suppose i can catch up on this series until then 🙂 )
Ryan, you won’t have long to wait. I’ve got Blood on the Stars 7 coming out in March, and then hopefully Refugees 5 in April, with #6 not far behind (June, maybe?). – Jay
Jay,
What’s up with Amazon? Just finished book 2 and want to get 3-5 (already have Dauntless, but don’t want to read out of sequence). When I go to Amazon the kindle editions don’t seem to be available. No way to order. Suggestions??
Have many of your books and love your writing!
Harold
Harold – The Kindle editions for all the Blood on the Stars book are active. Here is a link to the series page – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078XFQDSH/ – Jay
Think I have know read all of your books. They have all been great. Can not wait for “White Fleet” to make an appeance.
Tony- I’m glad you’ve enjoyed them all. That’s always nice to hear. The White Fleet is coming March 20, and the last two books of the Refugees series will be next, not too far behind. – Jay
Jay, Will Book 6, be on audio anytime soon. I have all 5 books from Audible. I really enjoy the audio versions of Blood in the Stars.series and am looking forward to the audio version of book 6.
Stanley, absolutely. Audible hasn’t given me a launch date yet, but my best guess is you should see it by the end of the month. They just bought books 7-9 as well, so they will continue to handle the audio releases for the series. – Jay
I spend a lot of time on the road and have enjoyed all of your books via the Audible App. When will Book 6 be available on Audible? I’m almost done with Book 5. Awesome series of books and looking forward to 7.
Brian – Audible is working on it now. They haven’t given me a release date yet, but based on their past timetables, I would guess it will be out soon. They’re also working on book 7 now, which should be out in 2-3 months (ebook releases 3/20). – Jay
I now understand the excitement people felt when the Harry Potter books were coming out. My life feels like it’s buffering while I wait for audible releases of your books–I may have to actually start reading to catch up.
As much as I would love a Blood on the Stars movie series, I think I’d enjoy a video game even more.
Ryan, thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoy the books. I’d be up for a movie or a video game, of course! I can tell you, I just signed a contract for a Blood on the Stars tabletop miniatures game, so that’s pretty exciting…if not a movie. – Jay
The Blood on the Stars books are probably my favorite sci-fi books of all time. Very well written, and I get really attached to the characters. Very happy you are continuing Tyler and company’s adventures in The White Fleet. Almost finished with Dauntless, and have the first White Fleet book on standby.
I’m old school and prefer printed books, so I always get the trade paperbacks for books that I want to read over and over. Blood on the Stars is definitely on that list. I wouldn’t mind having hardbacks of them all.
I’d like to echo the statement above that these would make great movies. In my opinion, if done properly they would blow any other space sci-fi movies away, including the big franchise. The characters and stories are simply better and more believable.
Keep ’em coming!
Andrew, thanks so much for all the kind comments. There is a pretty good chance I will start doing hardcovers soon. I suspect it’s a small, niche audience, but also one that will have my most enthusiastic readers in it. I’m glad you enjoy my characters…I do make an effort to make them seem like actual people with weaknesses. I wouldn’t mind seeing them in a movie myself, but I’d have to say that’s probably quite a longshot. Meanwhile, as long as all of you keep enjoying the books, I’m happy. – Jay
