Hello!
First, thanks for checking out my new blog. When I first started writing five years ago, I kept up my blog semi-regularly, but as time went by and the number of projects on my desk multiplied, I fell out of the habit. The time between posts grew longer and longer, until eventually, I only posted book releases, and then not even that.
This time, I’m serious about it, and I intend to post very regularly, sharing the status of projects I’m working on, as well as other interesting stuff. I’m sure this has been said a million times, but I mean it (and I’m sure that has been said a million times too!).
So, if you are interested in the books I write, and in news and discussions (and maybe some reviews of things I like), make sure to stop by a couple times a week and catch up. I’ll probably also be giving some stuff away here. I’ve got a bunch of print editions of my books, plus audiobooks codes, ebooks, maps, and other swag, and I’d love to get some of it to my regular readers.
That’s enough for an intro (or re-intro, I guess). More to come, much more…and soon.
Jay
Jay, This post refers to Ruins of Empire, book three in the Blood on the Stars series.
I have a problem understanding how you arrived at the figure of eight or nine teratons for the antimatter container. Earlier Fritz stated that each container held between fifty and one hundred kilograms of antimatter. One hundred kilograms of antimatter will generate a 4.3 gigaton blast when it comes in contact with one hundred kilograms of normal matter. Your statement is on page two of chapter thirty one. When Fritz gave the estimated weight she also gave an estimate for one gram of antimatter. She gave a figure of “more than forty kilotons”. That estimate is correct. Somewhere the estimated weight of the antimatter increased by a factor of two thousand. Have I missed something?
Tom,
Honestly, off the top of my head I don’t know. Two possibilities. One, I just made a hasty math error. Two, I meant to refer to all of the canisters and not just one.
Jay
Ugh! Really? This is a Science Fiction book not a science textbook. Just enjoy it.
Any ideas when one might expect “Crucible of Fire” in the Fall 2017?
James, working on crucible right now. Release will be late September.
Just Dragon’s Banner from 2013, any more of these coming?
Rick, I do plan to finish the trilogy that began with The Dragon’s Banner, but I don’t have exact timing yet. I’m hoping to get one book out in 2018 and the last in 2019. I loved writing the Dragon’s Banner, but I have ten times as many people waiting for more Refugees and Blood on the Stars. I WILL finish it though. I’m planning to write some more fantasy as soon as I can make the time.
Hi Jay really enjoying blood on the stars. Any plans to set a novel in the time of the cataclysm?
That’s something I’ve thought about. I like the idea of visiting a universe in different time periods. I’d say there’s a good chance I will do something like that, but it’s not on the immediate horizon. Jay
Hello love your books, just finished the White Fleet. I was wondering if you have considered drawing up a map of perhaps the entire old empire, and placing the known civilizations in it somewhere?
Charles – I’ve often thought about things like this for my series, and I suspect people would like it, but the stumbling block is always the time it would take, and the fact that it would just push back the next book. One day, hopefully. – Jay
I just finished your Blood on the Stars series ending with the White Fleet. I loved it but was sad to finish the last one. Your characters are very engaging and I found myself drawn into their lives, their decisions and their world as if I was with them. I’ll keep checking back on Amazon for the next one to come out.
Brian,
Don’t be sad…Book 8 (Black Dawn) will be out on June 27 (and book nine, Invasion either late August or September).
Thanks for the comments. They are always appreciated…and I’m glad you enjoyed them so far.
Jay
Could you give us a quick timeline for your novels? Maybe with a quick description of how long after the cataclysm they happened?
Chris, I think you’re asking about the Blood on the Stars books, which all have dates at the starts of the various chapters. Depending on where the action is in each chapter, there are a number of systems (for the various cultures covered in each chapter) but the Confederation time scale is measured from the Cataclysm. Obviously, what they call the “Cataclysm” actually took place over a period of years, but those dates are from the end of it. So, the series begins a little over 300 years after, and the books have now covered about 12 years of actual time. Hope this is the answer you wanted. -Jay
